Translated title:
Architectural depictions (cities, houses, churches) in the byzantine illustrated manuscripts. Painting patterns, symbolism, factual correlations, integration of the paintings in the painting space
Summary:
The essay studies the architectural depictions (cities, houses, churches) in the illustrations of byzantine manuscripts. Typical examples are chosen in order to study the painting patterns, the symbolism, the factual correlations and their position in the painting space.
The cities are presented fortified and their interior is usually filled with roofs of buildings and domes. The houses and the other kinds of buildings seem to be corellated enough to the real. On the other hand, the churches can bear symbolism, as the representation of Heavenly Jerusalem or Sion.
In many cases the architectural depictions are closely related to the illustrated text and are affected either by the painting trends or earlier painting patterns.
