The role of European Court of Justice in EU integration
Summary:
This project attempts to assess the role of the European Court of Justice in the EU integration process. The European Court of Justice is one of the main institutions of the European Union and it constitutes the main judicial body with the signing of the Lisbon Treaty. The founders of the European Community decided to set up a permanent court whose contribution has been instrumental in the development of the European Union.
The purpose of this project is to examine the judicial activism the European Court of Justice has performed. Some fundamental principles of EU law, that were not mentioned in the Treaties, were established by judicial cases. At the same time, this project presents the main characteristics of the European Union's legal system and it analyses some theoretical approaches concerning the role and the evolution of the Union.
