The life and action of St. Efthimios of Sardeus: struggle and martyrdom for Orthodoxy.
Summary:
This dissertation is an attempt to study the works and the days of St. Efthymios , bishop of Sardis (754-831). Our main source of information is the life of Efthymios, written by his student Patriarch of Constantinople Methodius. At first, we outlined the origins and the educational background of Efthymios , his entry into monastic life and his ordainment as a bishop by the Patriarch of Constantinople, Tarasios. By making use of the sources and the bibliography from the iconoclastic era, we chronicled his actions in defense of orthodoxy, his life exile and his martyrical death.
