Social Representations of Europe
Summary:
In this study, social representations of Europe are studied in case of the Greek youth. The sample consists of 54 young people aged between 20 and 25 years old, that are recipients of higher education. The participants were asked to state the 6 first words that entered their minds when hearing the key-word Europe as well as provide one-word answers to questions concerning European States. The material gathered was subjected to quantitive analysis based on the method of free associations and the associative map. The results show that Europe is interwoven with the European Union for young people -the political aspect of Europe turns out to be the central core of our representation- both with positive and negative connotations.
