Summary:
Eleftherios Venizelos' domination in Greek political scene during the 1910-1914’s period led the anti-venizelists to the thought that a new political formation was needed in order to express their ideas, since all old existing parties had lost credibility. Dimitrios Gounaris' party, «Ethnikofrones» (Nation-minded), presented itself as the opposing political movement to Venizelos' Liberal Party in 1915. «Ethnikofrones» and Gounaris were among the protagonists of the 1915-1922 period, during of which the politicians and the people were divided into two radically opposed political camps. This study approaches the history of the “Ehtnikofrones” Party up until they had their name changed into “Laikon Party” in 1920. Any political formation's study though couldn't have been considered complete without the survey of the social conditions that contributed to party’s establishment and up to a point affected its action. Therefore, this thesis also examines the economical, political and social problems Greece had been facing since 1892 up to Gounaris' decision to form his own party and the way the parties attempted to solve those problems.
