"The Effect of Music on a Child with Cerebral Palsy"
Summary:
This paper will investigate the possible effects of Music on children with cerebral palsy. The participant of the study, which lasted for two months, was an eleven year old boy with spastic quadriplegia, which is a subset of cerebral palsy. During this case study, his behaviour and participation in Music class were observed. The study took place at the 1st Special Elementary School of Pangrati, Athens. The tools used to conduct the survey were musical instruments. More specifically, the main ones, which were used in every music lesson, were the piano, the guitar and the tumbrelle. A triangle, a maraque and a xylophone were also used as secondary music instruments. A drum and a baton were used during the intervention. The results of the study show that Music can have a positive effect on the kinetic, social and communication skills of a child. The conclusions of the study/findings of the survey are being discussed with and compared to those of similar researches.
