Η στάση του Θουκυδίδη και του Πολύβιου απέναντι στους προγενέστερούς τους ιστορικούς
Translated title:
The attitude of Thucydides and Polybius towards the previous historians
Summary:
The science of history was born and formed in Greece in a span of several centuries (from the first Ionian logographers to Thucydides, Polybius and the later historians). In this paper the study of the attitude of the two most significant historians, Thucydides and Polybius, towards the previous historians and history is attempted. By studying passages of their work and following the evolution of history into science we discover the elements that formed Thucydides’ investigative and critic eye, as well as Polybius’ sharp political judgement, in order to draw definite conclusions about the ways in which each of those significant historians regarded history and its representatives.
