Summary:
Introduction: Dry eye syndrome is a global health problem that afflicts millions of people with particularly high prevalence and morbidity.
Aims & Objectives: The purpose of this work is to make the most complete recording of the newest available data regarding the treatment of dry eye syndrome.
Μaterial and Methods: We searched in PubMed and Google Scholar databases, with the following keywords: “dry eye syndrome and management” “dry eye syndrome and treatment ”. The publication period of articles was set between 2010 until March 2018. The language of articles were in English.
Results: Out of all 100 articles, only ten articles met inclusion criteria. The majority of studies noted that treatment of dry eye syndrome still remain the use of lubricants and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Conclusions: Further research is needed to understand the immunomodulatory and inflammatory mechanisms of the conjunctiva and development of new therapies for treatment of syndrome.
