Callous – unemotional traits, narcissism and impulsivity as prognostic factors of school bullying: A cross national study
Summary:
The aim of this study was to investigate the association of callous – unemotional traits, narcissism and impulsivity with school bullying and to compare the data from two countries. Data come from 1442 participants, aged 9 – 12, attending primary schools which were selected randomly from Greece and Cyprus. Participants completed the Inventory of Callous – Unemotional Traits, the Antisocial Process Screening Device and the Student Survey of Bullying Behavior – Revised. Findings indicate that callous – unemotional traits, narcissism and impulsivity predict significantly bullying, although narcissism predicts bullying more than callous unemotional traits and impulsivity. Second, the nationality does have an effect on impulsivity, narcissism and callous-unemotional traits. However, there was no significant association between bullying and nationality. Third, gender has a significant relation with impulsivity, narcissism and callous – unemotional and bullying. These results address the differences of psychopathy dimensions in a cross national level and highlight the necessity of developing an anti – bullying program in Greece and in Cyprus.
