Summary:
The safety culture of an organization is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, skills and behavior that determine the commitment, style and experience of the management of Health and Safety of an organization. (HSE, 2005) The patients’ safety is closely linked with the efficiency of the unit and the health outcomes of patients because it is a dimension of quality of health services. The present study aimed to investigate the safety culture that prevails in 5 health centers of Athens and make proposals to improve this. To conduct the research the healthcare professionals filled out an anonymous self-administered questionnaire of the Greek version of the scale ‘’Beliefs about security ‘’SAQ. The participants 176 health professionals working at the time of this research in the primary health structures and have given their views on the safety culture. The results showed that more positive beliefs appear for job satisfaction and teamwork, followed by the security climate, while fewer positive beliefs occur for work conditions and stress recognition.
