Adverbial clauses, excluding the conditional ones, in greek non-literary papyri of imperial and early Arabian period
Summary:
This thesis looks into the syntactic structure of secondary adverbial clauses, excluding the conditional ones, of Greek non-literary papyri from 31 B.C. until 800 A.D. The subject of the study was a body of about 55,000 papyrus documents and 15,000 shells. The paper includes the introduction, the main part, the general remarks, the appendix and bibliography. General observations include, inter alia, companion of the structure of adverbial clauses in the papyri of imperial and early Arabian period with the structure of the classical and the Ptolemaic era, in order to show the continuity in the development of ancient Greek language. Moreover, the aforementioned syntactic phenomena in the period under review are compared with those in the language of Greek inscriptions and the New Testament in order for the study to reach conclusions about whether the deviations observed are due to ignorance of the (co)scribe or they are manifestations of general linguistic developments of the time.
