Translation and adjustment of the DEPS-R questionnaire in hellenic culture and clinical study of "Diabulimia"
Summary:
Eating disorders often coexist with diabetes mellitus. This co-morbidity is considered difficult to be diagnosed and is associated with serious medical complications and resistance to treatment.
The term “diabulimia” refers to the eating disorder, in which patients with type 1 diabetes receive less or no insulin than they need in order to lose weight loss.
Up to date, there is no approved questionnaire in Greek to detect such problematic eating patterns among diabetic patients.
This study examined the psychometric properties of the structure and derivatives of a Greek version of the Diabetes Eating Problem Survey-Revised [DEPS-R], a questionnaire assessing the likelihood of diabulimia, in adults with diabetes type 1 and studied the phenomenon in these patients.
The Greek version of DEPS-R was found to have very good construct validity and internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.897). The Intraclass correlation coefficient ICC did not demonstrate the test-retest reliability of the questionnaire at 14-21 days.
