Role Play in Adult Education

This thesis analyzes the use of role play in adult education. Firstly, the concept of adult education is explained as well as its main purpose and its evolution through time. Then the main characteristics of adult students and teachers are presented to demonstrate the differences between them and kid students in order to understand the different approach that is needed.
Continuing with the theories of adult learning it is explained how the many models of teaching methods have affected the education and how the students react to each of them. As the roleplay is presented for its contribution, this thesis describes its evolution, pros and cons and leads on how to create a successful class project using roleplaying games and how to organise every step of the process using different techniques for optimal results depending on each case.
Finally, some successful projects are presented and analyzed on why they work also giving suggestions for future use and improvement for the method on similar or new cases. The cases concentrate on language learning and environmental education, how to use the method on university and college students in social and science fields and also how role play can affect the learning experience of adults with disabilities.
