The concepts of pain, death and resurrection in Kyriakos Charalambides' poems
Summary:
The following dissertation aims at getting the reader acquainted, in the best possible way, with the above-mentioned prominent poet and his work. Specifically with the broader spiritual-theological elements and the way he perceives the polysemous concepts of pain, death and Resurrection.
In a wider tendency to escapism from mundane reality, it is proven that he addresses the swinging consequences of pain, death anf Resurrection for every human being in a clearly Orthodox way. The phenomenon of pain is considered as an incident of “Benign fortune”, a kind of distinctive “benefaction”, as he sees it. At the same time, he dares to face the tragic phenomenon of death, while redemption, to the poet's mind, undoubtedly comes through love and sacrifice. However, the basic characterisitc that makes this Cypriot poet stand out among most of his contemporary poets, is his profound belief in Resurrection, the cornerstone event for Christianity, according to which, earthly, conventional history will fulfill and transcedent itself in the reign of heaven, its Meta-history.
