Summary:
This dissertation attempts to study the presence of repetitive figures of speech in folk songs and in particular, in the songs of mourning (lament) and the songs of the underworld of the Maniots. The present study relies on the collections of K. Passagianis (mostly) as well as on the works of S. Kougeas, P. Kallidonis and K. Kassis and aims to promote a particularly sophisticated unprepared kind of verse in verbal form. The specific kind of folk song was selected due to its inextricable connection to the rhetoric/oratory contest of spontaneity, that is the unprepared speech and is, therefore, not only of great linguistic and philological value but also clearly based on rhetorics, which is directly related to the particular postgraduate qualification programme. Thus, the present study has been structured on the axes of folk song, lament as well as on their particular techniques and characteristics, that is, the figures of speech which define them. It is for this reason that part of the dissertation briefly describes these repetitive figures of speech , since they are the central subject of study. Moreover, the methodology of processing the songs and of extracting the results is described. Finally, an analytical presentation of the study, including all the songs and their individual critical analysis as well as the outcomes of the research conducted, is being attached.
