Informed consent The dominant view and its critique from a kantian standpoint
Summary:
The aim of the thesis is the critique of the 'dominant view' on informed consent from a Kantian standpoint. The dominant view is grounded on bioethical 'principlism' which is represented by the four principles of Tom Beauchamp and James Childress. While there is a tension between autonomy and beneficence principles in principlism's context, it seems to be resolved in the Kantian context as the two are equal as principles of wright and virtue. That means that we must respect the patient's autonomy as far as it can be expressed and subsitute it in the case of complete or partial incompetence by the intitutional beneficence of medical care.
