The Policy on Minimum Guaranteed Income and its application during an economic crisis
Summary:
This paper aims to present the implementation of the guaranteed minimum income framework in Greece during the economic and social crisis. The first chapter presents the basic characteristics of the welfare state, its main typologies and the philosophy behind minimum guaranteed income. In the following chapters, reference is made to the implementation efforts from 1998 to 2015, when a pilot run of the guaranteed minimum income was mandatory upon a request from Greece’s creditors. The last chapter consists of an assessment of the application of the minimum guaranteed income as well as the resulting changes that affect Public Policy and social protection in Greece.
