The relationship between secularity- Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam in the Middle East: the case study of Egypt 1954-2018
Summary:
The shape of the relationship between secularity and the Islamic Movement (moderate or radical) affects the countries of the Islamic world. The study of this relationship can help someone to understand a lot of the conflicts which oscillate Islam.
This thesis essay is dealing with the evolution of the relationship between secularity- Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam in the Middle East considering as a case study Egypt during the period 1954-2018. It is estimated that this relationship took the form of contravention and conflict, even if there were some periods of reconciliation and collaboration. I didn’t choose this period of time incidentally. The year 1954 signals a serious event in modern Egyptian history. The Armed Forces took the control of the state. The military officers or “Free Officers” as they are known were representatives of secularity as well. Thence, the evolutionary process of the relationship between secularism and Islamic Movement constitutes the main source of confrontation and regulates the foreign relations. Moreover, studying this wide period of time the reader will understand in depth the above relationship and will perceive a lot of the processes in the Islamic world.
This essay consists of an introductory chapter and of two parts. The intersection is the “Arab Spring”. In the introductory chapter are presented the definition of secularity and the Islamic Movement, how this relationship has evolved and a concise reference to the history of this relationship in Egypt from the 19th century till 1954. The first part with the title “The relationship before “Arab Spring” 1954-2011: a relationship with fluctuations” consists of three chapters which present how the relationship evolved during the presidencies of Abdel Nasser, Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak. In the second part with the title “The relationship during the “Arab Spring” 2011-2018: from the setback to the total predominance of secularity?” consists of three chapters as well. All of them present the evolution of the mentioned relation during the governance of Hussein Tantawi, Mohamed Morsi and Abdel Fatah al- Sisi. In the end a critical valuation follows and a forecast for the future. It follows the bibliography and the sources I exploited for the integration of this book.
