Management of Volcanic Risk in Italy
Summary:
The current thesis will refer to volcanic crisis management and especially in the country of Italy. Italy as a country has a great geological matter, as its volcanoes are among the most active on the planet and their regions are characterized as densely populated. We will clarify concepts such as what is risk and vulnerability, destruction and crisis, concepts we are often refer to, but few are the ones that can separate their true meaning. We will learn more about volcanoes, their categories, their parts, but we will focus on the management of volcanic disasters, on how the state mechanism and the inhabitants should respond. Then we will move to the case study, starting to know Italy as a country, its geographical and demographic data, its culture, and later Naples, where the Campi Flegrei are located. This is followed by Italy’s geological history according to which we understand all of this phenomenon in Campi Flegrei, in particular the action plans for the region, complexity in disaster management planning, mitigation strategies and cost – benefit assessments. While it is necessary to point out the future developments and needs that will arise. Finally, we will refer to some conclusions and suggestions based on what has been said. It is imperative that we understand how important is to have an action plan and a team that will be able to inform – train the people so that they are not vulnerable to the emergence of a crisis but properly prepared for any possible scenario.
