Summary:
The present master's extended essay deals with the study of the working life of the people who lived in the countryside of Messinia, which constitute a part of our popular culture - a culture that has never been leaned and unchanged. The aims of my effort were as follows: The study of the folk professions of Messinia, through the manuscripts of the Folklore Studies School covering the fifty years (1965-2012), with the goal of forming the economic profile of the prefecture. The identification of any transformations observed over time and the successions and discontinuities of the rural life of Messinia as they appear through manuscripts. The narrative representation of working life by the informants and the way folk - writers approach popular culture. Besides, the role of the science of Folklore is to gather and examine testimonies. It doesn’t approach the past, but the people that has existed then and still exists, having present and future.
