Summary:
This thesis focuses on the activities of exploration, exploitation and utilization of space resources and the relevant international legal regime. The intense interest of private companies in the exploitation of space resources in combination with the emergence of relevant national laws, have necessitated the effective regulation of the space resources regime. The importance of such regulation is also confirmed by the discussions held among the interested States in the context of the UNCOPUOS Legal Subcommittee. The main question that this thesis seeks to answer is whether the international space treaties in force can be effectively used for the regulation of the space resources exploitation or whether a new treaty, a specific regime on such exploitation is needed.
