Migration. Radicalization of immigrants and extremism.
Summary:
This paper attempts a brief, substantive exploration of the way in which vulnerable social groups such as immigrants are radicalized and the possibility of leading some of them into extremist actions. In particular, the flow of Islamic migration across Europe and thus in our country will be examined, due to their overwhelming share of total migration flow within the European Union (EU) over the last decade. The work is structured in three different yet interrelated themes. The first part will set out general terms and practices regarding migratory flow and how that flow is managed within the EU. The second part will examine the key features that differentiate specific groups of immigrants such as religion and culture. Additionally, the most important of the statutory rights of immigrants will be mentioned, their application in Greek society and social reactions with references to specific incidents will be examined. The third part will analyze the phenomenon of radicalization and the potential guidance of radicalized immigrants in acts of violent extremism with references to terrorist attacks across the EU. The work is completed with proposals to address these phenomena and to draw conclusions.
