Summary:
This thesis deals with the land of the Argolid. In particular, it focuses on its key derivative, the orange, and the ways in which its production has affected the locals. The production, consumption and ways of processing and using orange are key parameters that are dealt with in the following paper. The influences and ways of approaching the orange can be seen in the social, economic and cultural aspects of the everyday life of the inhabitants of the Argolid, such as religion, folk songs and tales and of course customs which occurred in the Argolid until the middle of the 20th century .The production and the primary production sector, the economy, the social organization of the inhabitants and the role of the orange in the popular culture are issues that concern the research upon which the thesis is based, which took place in the region of the Argolid. In addition, another important parameter that is mentioned is the place the orange could have in the National Registry of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece and its viability in the Argolid. This thesis deals with aspects of the orange and tries to understand the place the orange haw in the society and culture of the Argolid and the locals’ views regarding the orange.
