Summary:
In this thesis, potassium-4-styrenesulfonyl(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (STFSIK) was synthesized and characterized with Fourier-transfer Infrared (FTIR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The corresponding polymer, lithium (poly 4-styrenesulfonyl(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) (PSTFSI) was subsequently obtained by Reversible Addition-Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization and Nitroxide Mediated Polymerization (NMP) and characterized with 1H NMR and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). For the polymerization of STFSIK via RAFT,2-(dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonylsulfanyl)-2-methylpropionic acid (DDMAT) was used as a reversible chain transfer agent (CTA) in the presence of 2,2' -azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), in an anhydrous N,N Dimethylformamide (DMF) solution. A linear PSTFSIK homopolymer was also synthesized with N-tert-Butyl-N-(2-methyl-1-phenylpropyl)-O-(1-phenylethyl) as the initiator in a DMF solution via NMP. A star polymer was synthesized with the addition of STFSIK and divinylbenzene (DVB) in an anhydrous DMF solution.
