Summary:
The following research paper is a combined study of psychoanalytical theory and research in order to explore the relation between trauma and psychosis. Also, trauma is being studied in relation with positive and negative psychotic symptoms in psychosis. The research method of choice is case study method. Ten case studies have been conducted and analyzed according to traumatic record and symptoms throughout their life span. Results has been supporting a common ground in traumatic aspects between the case studies, such as mother’s psychopathology and hereditary factors in mental illness. Conclusions were in support of psychosis being present from the very beginning, when there are difficulties in mother-child relationship. In addition, positive symptoms in psychosis have been linked with better prognosis and less destructive trauma effect. Negative symptoms were not found in case studies but disorganization was linked with extended traumatic situations in psychosis.
