Risks and Disasters at Pre-Schools. The case of Glyfada’s Municipality

Attica is often affected by natural phenomena that sometimes develop into natural disasters. In order to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, it is necessary to have and apply the legal framework, as well as to maintain a high level of preparedness of the competent bodies. At the same time, increased social awareness of the risks is a vital element in reducing the risk of disasters.
Because children are one of the most vulnerable groups in natural and non-natural disasters, it is a duty and priority for the State, local communities and families to provide adequate protection and safety to day care centers.The purpose of this thesis is to study the kindergartens and kindergartens of the Municipality of Glyfada, as well as to investigate their level of preparedness for risk management.
 In this work, a bibliographical search will be conducted on disasters that have affected the Municipality of Glyfada, as well as identifying the risks for the kindergartens of this Municipality, which are one of the largest Municipalities in the country. At the same time, a questionnaire survey will be conducted for the kindergarten staff on issues related to their knowledge and the prevention and preparedness measures they have taken at individual and occupational level to manage risks and crises. Studying and processing the results of the research will draw conclusions and make suggestions for disaster risk reduction.
