Summary:
Abstract
This paper investigates the determinants of the factors that impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on a host economy, more specifically examines the various economic, political, social cultural and environmental factors effects on foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in Greece. This study examines the importance of institutions as determinants of foreign direct investment flows by quantitative analysis (questionnaire method analysis). In addition, we apply a questionnaire survey to the executives of multinational corporations operating in Greece in order to reveal the impact of institutional variables on foreign direct investment. In recent years, within the global economy, or more specific the economic integration definition there are flows and transfer capital, technology and other means of production among different countries. As a result, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one of the mostly used ways of internationalization which plays an important role as an engine of employment, technological development, productivity enhancement, economic intensification, and more importantly, as an instrument of technology transfer especially from developed to developing countries. Each country in which foreign companies want to invest has its own characteristics; particular opportunities and barriers from each country might arise when a foreign company starts its investment.
