The Smiths at Pylos: Putting the Jn Series in Context
Summary:
This dissertation first considers the textual evidence of bronzesmithing at Pylos in the Jn series of Linear B records and how the evidence of the bronze ta-ra-si-ja system aligns with the evidence of the records for the ta-ra-si-ja system in the textile industry. The dissertation then utilizes prosopographical methods to further analyze the textual evidence, before comparing the written records with extant archaeological evidence. All of the methodologies are then combined in search of new conclusions regarding how bronzesmithing was recorded and organized by the Palace at Pylos in the Late Bronze Age.
