" 'The poetry of the defeat'. The cases of Panos Thasitis, Kleitos Kyrou, Thanasis Kostavaras"

The purpose of this thesis is to try to analyse the poetry phenomenon that has been secured at the body of the Greek Literature as “Poetry of the Defeat”. Firstly, is provided the overview of the Post-War poetry, where the current of this poetry is acceded. The period is put in a context and the historical and social parameters are being defined, because they capture the style of the Post-War poetry, while is being attempted a differentiation between “generations”, in order to attribute the distinguishing features that each generation has. Of course, the technical characteristics are not excused to be mentioned, because they differentiate the current poetry from the one that is related to the Generation of the `30s, not only due to the political and social atmosphere that bear, but also due to the innovative features that carry.
Subsequently, the terminology “Poetry of the Defeat” is being specified as the end of the historical events, which with their impulse affected the view of the poets that this poetic movement includes. The terminology made its appearance for the very first time with the Viron Leontaris` homonymous article in 1963. The title of the article caused reactions on behalf of the review that represented the conservative wing of the Left, because it was coincided with the military defeat and eventually it was separated from its context.
The case study of Panos Thasitis, Kleitos Kyrou, Thanasis Kostavaras poetry was operated with texts from the body of their bibliography and was commanded by the fact that these three poets seem to have the same point of view. After the civil war, they seem to develop common topical patterns and poetic reflex actions, in spite of the different styles that they perform. However, this coincidence is expectable, because all of them acceded to the Left that formed their political and social ethics. It can be assumed, therefore, that the futility of their efforts infected them with emotional distress and a sense of loss. So, the topics that cycle throughout their poetics and the reasons that call for this repetition are discovered.
