Anatomic anomalies of the superior and the inferior vena cava
Summary:
Τhe venous system embryology is a difficult but extremely interesting and useful chapter in medical science, knowledge of which is a useful tool for physicians, especially those dealing with vessels.
In the complex pathways of embryogenesis, any deficiency in the evolution of the venous system can lead to the formation of abnormalities that occur in the fetal, neonatal life or adulthood or remain asymptomatic and are diagnosed accidentally during surgical procedures or necrotomies.
The present thesis analyses the congenital anatomic anomalies of the superior and inferior vena cava. The embryological process that gives birth to each anatomic variant, their symptomatology and their importance in clinical practice are all described. Many of these are part of genetic syndromes and are associated with other anatomical abnormalities, others are individual variants with a different clinical picture.
The knowledge of embryology, anatomy, symptomatology and diagnostic procedure of the anatomical abnormalities of the superior and inferior vena cava is aimed at identifying them and avoiding dangerous complications.
