Aspects of Post-Napoleonic Europe: Pavel Pestel and the Decembrist generation
Summary:
This master's thesis examines the Decembrist movement in 19th century Russia through the lens of social and political history. Its main areas of interest are the social characteristics that constitute the Decembrists a discernible and representative generation of the Post-Napoleonic Age of Revolution, the purely Russian traits of the movement, as well as the political and ideological networks that developed between the Decembrists and their kindred European movements. The above topics are approached through the life and work of the Decembrist's chief Ideologist, Colonel Pavel Pestel, author of the most comprehensive draft for a Russian constitution until then.
