The museum and the city. National Archaeological Museum in the center of Athens.
Summary:
Ιn a world that is rapidly urbanizing, the relationship between the city and its museums is constantly changing. From factors of tourism development and economic growth, museums are now becoming agents of social change for their cities and societies, developing multifaceted actions of a collective nature and horizontal structure that seek to improve the life of the community. In this direction, museums go beyond the physical boundaries of their buildings by shaping and activating the public space, while inviting public life inside them in order to form living social spaces.
This dynamic and constantly evolving relationship, between the museum and the city, is the subject of the present work. Through the emblematic example of the National Archaeological Museum in the center of Athens, the study looks for the contradictions, possibilities and opportunities that arise from this coexistence.
