Management and Organization of Emergency Pharmaceutical Material in Case of Natural Disasters and Extensive Crises
Summary:
Natural disaster is any unavoidable event that has a negative impact on humans and the environment as well as on construction and infrastructure and is the result of human interaction with nature and technology. Natural disaster not only leads to human losses, environmental, social degradation and destruction of structures, but it adversely affects the economy of an area.
A mass catastrophe is characterized by a situation in which a large number of casualties occur within a short period of time regarding the current capabilities of the system. Since pharmacists and pharmacists operate within a specific health system, they are required to serve additional needs of patients and society, such as first aid and disaster response.
Immediately after a disaster, the situation is usually chronological and requires coordination at all levels, local, regional and national. The supply and management of medicinal products is a key factor and one of the most important weighting factors that affect the proper functioning and delivery of effective health services.
A prime example is the fire in Neo Voutsa and Mati (23/07/2018, with 102 dead and dozens injured), which is the deadliest in the history of the modern Greek state. Due to this unprecedented devastating fire, there has been a great deal of mobilization to gather essentials for residents in disaster-stricken areas, including sanitary ware. An organized effort was made with the participation of participating pharmacists, where a collection and distribution center for medicines was created in the Nea Makri Cultural and Sports Park.
