Percutaneous transluminal treatment of symptomatic chronic peripheral femoral-popliteal arterial disease
Summary:
Chronic peripheral artery disease represents a wide spectrum ranging from asymptomatic stenosis to critical limb ischemia. The last decade has been a great increase in the variety of intravascular devices and techniques for the treatment of obstructive vascular disease. The literature on the treatment of intravascular artery disease consists of mixed quality studies without clear standardization, as in many evolving technologies Therefore, critical assessment of the results can causes serious problems.
As a result either the medical community or patients make treatment decisions without taking advantage of a comparative efficacy.
Intent in the present study is to give information about techniques of intravascular therapy in chronic peripheral artery disease. Part of this study is based on previous publications and standards proposed by the Society of Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology.
Finally, we make recommendations based on the current literature and try to identify any shortcomings and data for future research. Individual sections can used as a guide for the design of clinical trial and as a reference for the scientific authors for a future study about endovascular therapy in chronic obstructive artery disease of lower limb.
