Summary:
This doctoral thesis focuses on the conditions that need to be met by faithful Christians who wish to receive the Holy Body and Holy Blood of Jesus Christ. These conditions were primarily examined through the indisputable text of the Holy Canons, in order to point out Orthodox Church’s point of view on this issue, based on Canon Law.Τhe sacrament of Holy Eucharist has been characterized as "the heart of Church’s worship" and in fact constitutes the core of the Church's worship life. Through the Holy Eucharist Christians are united with our Lord Jesus Christ, but also with each other, so as to form the Body of the Church, with the Lord as Head. However, the issue of Christians’ participation to the sacrament of Holy Eucharist has so far only been studied in depth by the pastoral point of view and not through the dimension of Canon Law. Perhaps this is due to the fact that there is no specific Holy Canon that defines in details the conditions that need to be met by faithful Christians, who wish to receive the Holy Communion. This innovating doctoral thesis attempts to achieve an overall presentation of the Holy Canons, that guide faithful people on how to prepare themselves, mentally and physically, in order to be able and worthy to receive the Holy Body and Holy Blood of Jesus Christ.
