The Schengen Treaty and the Refugee Issue
Summary:
This paper addresses the issue of migration that has arisen in Europe over the last decade and analyzes the content of the Schengen Convention. The tools used to shape the work are bibliography and online resources. This method has been used as it is the most reliable for the time we have available to deal with this issue as effectively and as accurately as possible. In particular, the content of the work concerns the reason for the creation of the European Union and the Amsterdam and Schengen Treaties, which establish in a legal context the safety of European citizens and the free movement of persons and goods. At the same time, the method of managing migration both from the Australian side and from the Canadian side, two different countries, is highlighted. The following outlines how to deal with immigration within the European Union from 2007 until today. In addition, this work defines the concepts of "immigrant" and "refugee" in accordance with the Geneva Convention, while seeking to approximate the concept of immigration within the structure of Greek society. . Approaches to the concept of migration in the context of sociological, political, economic, historical-institutional approach and feminist perspective are also highlighted. There are also historical events that gave birth to refugees and marked our country, such as the Asia Minor Disaster in 1922 and the Civil War in 1946-1949. There is also reference to the European fear because of the large human flows entering the Old Continent and Turkey's attitude towards Europe on this issue. In conclusion, the Schengen Convention and the issue of migration in Europe are criticized, as well as the conclusions drawn from these two issues.
