Abstract

This postgraduate thesis examines the issue of cultural heritage protection in the context of natural and anthropogenic disasters management with an emphasis on the preservation of the cultural reserve in Greece.
The increasing trend of disasters and the severity of their impacts at many levels over the last 30 years has been the focus of international reflection and management, which increasingly includes the concern for the protection of cultural heritage from anthropogenic and natural hazards along with the establishment of a belief that cultural goods constitute a factor in economic, social and cultural development.
In a country with an enormous cultural reserve, such as Greece, the concern for its protection in the context of disaster management must be a key objective of national planning, and, furthermore, requires a relevant risk assessment and the necessary administrative, legal, technical and financial measures to be taken.
