Music and the Iranian revolution in 1979: Cultural reform, its effects on women and the state of youth
Summary:
This thesis deals with the political events of the 1979 Iranian revolution and then how it affects the cultural affairs of the country. The modernization and the westernization policies of the monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi were met with a strong reaction from iranian society led by Ayatollah Khomeini, who managed to transform the hitherto reign into a theocratic regime under his own leadershio. This had cultural implications, with the ban on listening and performing all western forms in music, dance and cinema and the ban on women in their entirety. At the same time, the attitude of young people has been remarkable as it has opened a new path for musical things, with the creation of new kinds of music for Iran, aimed at resisting the goverment's restrictive policies and strict religious rules.
