Inflammasome in renal diseases
Summary:
Inflammasome is a protein assembly witch participates in innate immunity mechanisms by producing cytokines and inducing inflammation. The most studied protein group witch takes part in its formation is the Nucleotide binding domain and leukine rich repeat containing proteins receptors (NLR) and specifically the NLRP3 protein. Given the fact that inflammation is determinant in the development of kidney injury, numerous studies are taking place in order to investigate the role of NLRP3 inflammasome in kidney disease. Furthermore much research is taking place in order to investigate possible therapeutic interventions.
