Summary:
In the present study, 6-month treatment with liraglutide resulted in a greater improvement of endothelial function, arterial stifness, LV myocardial strain, twisting and untwisting, NT-proBNP and oxidative stress than metformin in newly diagnosed and treatment-naive patients with T2DM. Tus, in diabetic patients with evidence of arterial stifness and impaired LV deformation even subclinically, early targeted antidiabetic treatment which ofers myocardial protection may retard the progression to diabetic heart disease.
