Summary:
This dissertation, which is entitled “The Contribution of the Church of Greece to Inter-Orthodox Relations during the 20th Century”, deals with the substantial contribution of the Church of Greece to the formation of relations between the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches in the twentieth century. The contribution of the Church of Greece to Inter-Orthodox Relations has been highlighted i) in its assistance to the Elder Patriarchates and the other Autocephalous Orthodox Churches in resolving various problems of common interest, ii) in the discussion about the participation in the World Council of Churches (WCC) and iii) in its essential role as an assistant and valuable collaborator of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in organizing and ensuring the successful conduct of Pan-Orthodox activities which culminated in the convening of the Holy and Great Synod of Crete in 2016. In addition, the dissertation describes the historical course of the formation of bilateral relations between the Church of Greece and the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches and the attitude it has taken towards the handling of the various obstacles (Nationalism, Unia, Orthodox Diaspora, Calendar Issue) which appeared and influenced the formation of Inter-Orthodox Relations.
