Summary:
The topic of the present dissertation entitled "The character of ambient music and its authenticity" is ambient music and its characteristics. Ambient is an atmospheric music genre that combines various music styles such as classical, jazz and electronic music. It is characterized by repetitive musical patterns without major changes in the variety of sound and rhythm. These features make it ideal for relaxing.
After defining in detail what kind of music ambient is, we will take a historical look into the way it was created and what its origin is. The types of ambient music will be mentioned and analyzed, where appropriate, and then an extensive reference will be made to its inventor, Brian Eno. This work will conclude with an analysis of the evolution of ambient music up to the modern age. Then there will be a report about some critical views of ambient music as a genre. Finally, is attached a text that describes the track “Aether”, which was composed for this dissertation. The research questions that will concern us are whether ambient music is ultimately a genre of music and what exactly this music represents.
