Τorture victims: Istanbul Protocol and case studies in Greece

The phenomenon of immigrants and refugees arriving in Greece requires from our country an initiative and the right strategy for its organized treatment. It is estimated that among them is a large percentage of people who have been tortured, punished or abused.
For the present dissertation, bibliographic data were collected and analyzed in Greek and international literature on the term torture, international law and the authorities regarding the identification of victims of torture. Specifically, a search was made in electronic databases of well-known scientific journals, as well as a search in relevant articles by the Greek and international press. Data will also be used from individual files, examined by the Civil Society Organization "Metadrasi", in the context of its action regarding the certification of torture victims based on the Istanbul Protocol.
The main purpose of this research was:
• Promoting the phenomenon of torture
• Social awareness of the special needs of torture victims and the need for immediate identification of victims
• The emergence of the need for an organized state body to provide comprehensive services to victims of torture in Greece
