Evaluation of different alveolar ridge preservation techniques after tooth extraction: a randomized clinical trial. Part 2.
Summary:
The extraction of a tooth leads to histological and morphological changes of the alveolar ridge, resulting in the reduction of its dimensions. For this reason, the alveolar ridge preservation procedure (ARP) has been proposed, which includes the placement of a bone graft into the socket and its stabilization by some covering means. A bibliographically documented bone graft is the bone graft of allogeneic origin, which leads to a significant reduction in the absorption of the alveolar ridge after tooth extraction. The free gingival graft and the collagen sponge have been proposed as covering means of the socket, but their effectiveness have never been directly compared. The aim of the present study is to compare the efficacy of free gingival graft and collagen sponge as socket sealing mean of allograft in ARP procedures.
