Technologies for First Responders for Disaster and Crisis Management. Case Study Hellenic Police.
Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and present the role and mission of the Greek Police in confronting and managing disasters and crises, as well as to promote innovation in society and first responders. The ultimate goal is to effectively manage crises and reduce human, material and environmental losses from natural and technological disasters, including both aggressive actions such as crime, and terrorist activities.
Increasing the capacity and resilience of citizens to natural and man-made disasters is vital to enable the Greek police to take all appropriate measures to manage them. To achieve this goal new technologies and mentioned and proposals are made to improve the protection of the Greek Police’s first responders from many unexpected dangers, expand or enhance their capabilities, reduce response time, upgrade their operational capability, improve inter-operability between services and agencies in the wider public sector, and improve incident communication management. Proposals submitted are tailored and implemented to the cross-sectoral needs of first responders, and are accessible and acceptable to citizens while at the same time in line with European values, applicable law and the protection of fundamental rights, in particular those relating to a hard core and concerning the protection of privacy, personal data and free movement.
