TCAT (Testamentary Capacity Assessment Tool) as a tool for detecting deficits in mild cognitive impairment
Summary:
The TCAT (Testamentary Capacity Assessment Tool) is a short tool for assessing testamentary ability, which, based on previous research, is reliable to detect patients with dementia who are unable to write a will. The present study used the tool to identify deficits in patients with aMCI and to demonstrate that seniors with mild cognitive impairment retain the ability to write a will. The sample collected is 64 people, 29 patients diagnosed with aMCI and 35 normal controls. After analysis of multiple comparisons, no statistically significant difference was seen between patients and controls. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that patients with aMCI retain the ability to write a will and show no differences with healthy population in areas such as memory, perception of financial parameters, judgment, will, and social intelligence.
