The «Word» of Dreyer and the Word of Kierkegaard
Summary:
The present work attempts a reading of Carl Dreyer's film «The Word» (1955), using as a tool the philosophy of the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard. The central concept in which this work focuses on is the concept of faith which plays an important role both in this particular film and in the philosopher's thought.
Furthermore, this work borrows some elements and terms from the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. In particular, it uses certain psychological remarks that come mainly from the book
«On the Genealogy of Morality» (1887) and help us to feel some indistinguishable features of the film's characters and their actions.
