Quality and Quality Assurance in Higher Education. Developments in European Quality Assurance policies and practices in the context of the Bologna Process
Summary:
This bachelor's thesis brings an approach to the concepts of "Quality" and "Quality Assurance" in Higher Education. Based on the assumption that they relate to multidimensional, multilevel and dynamic concepts, we will try to analyze their meaning and examine their political and ideological origins. The study also approaches their political dimension at European level and mainly in the "discourse" and "policies" developed within the Bologna Process. The interest in the Quality and Quality Assurance of higher education is highlighted by the European policy initiatives for the modernization, harmonization and evaluation of education systems in the globalized environment of the Europe of Knowledge. The review of the Bologna Process highlights the discourse and policy practices that make it a form of "soft governance", in the framework of which quality assurance procedures have been developed. and international organizations monitoring and accreditation higher education systems were strengthened. Concluding the review of the development and evolution of Quality Assurance in the light of the Bologna Process, we conclude that the European Higher Education Institutions within Bologna are considered to be responsible for the quality of higher education, and there is a consensus that quality assurance is essential to ensure accountability and enhance the improvement of systems and educational institutions. The quality assessment and accreditation systems are related to the internal operation and mission of higher education at the national level and shape and certify the “image” and “reputation” of institutions abroad as well as their position in the arena of university rankings. However, national higher education systems in Europe continue to be diverse in mission and structure, and the quality and quality assurance of European higher education is multidimensional and dynamic. However, national higher education systems in Europe continue to be diverse in mission and structure, and the quality and quality assurance of European higher education is multidimensional and dynamic and assimilated in their context, the ever-changing reality of higher education in the Europe of Knowledge. For the theoretical and conceptual foundation of the study we will rely on the literature review of valid published articles and studies. In order to capture the evolution of these concepts and procedures of Quality Assurance in higher education under the Bologna Process, we will analyze through qualitative content analysis the official texts of the European Commission, the official statements and announcements of the Bologna Process. and monitoring reports of stakeholders and organizations of higher education.
