SCHOOL BULLYING AND LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
Summary:
This thesis focuses on determining the bullying children with learning difficulties deal with at school, since during the last few years school bullying has evolved into a menacing phenomenon, which schools try to cope with. However, many children, whether vulnerable or having being diagnosed with a learning difficulty, are victimised by other children that are bigger and tougher. Therefore, this thesis aims to review the relevant literature approaching the bullying issue through both international and national studies, by also comparing the likelihood of the same group of children to act as a bully as well asto be bullied. Moreover, the thesis refers to the forms of school bullying experienced by students with learning difficulties and to exploring the attitude of such students towards school bullying, emphasising in particular on the age and gender variables, while coping strategies of children with and without learning difficulties against school bullying are compared. All students with and without learning difficulties have the right to learn and to ensure their holistic psychosocial health. It does not suffice for children to study together, when at the same time they are discriminated and involved in school bullying incidents, either as bullies, victims or witnesses. The Greek Ministy of Education should ensure students’ smooth learning, emotional and social integration to the general school facilities.
