Children and play: The influence of parental views on the foundation and utilization of play
Summary:
Children's play is significantly influenced by parental perceptions. These perceptions have a significant effect on the form that play takes and the frequency with which it appears in the daily life of children. However, parental views, in turn, are influenced by factors such as the cultural and socio-economic background of the parents, their academic level and their individual characteristics. The present study was conducted to investigate parents' perceptions of play and the extent to which it affects their children's play. For the implementation of this study, the method of qualitative interview was chosen to be conducted to ten mothers and ten fathers, where they were asked to express their views on play and to describe different characteristics of their children's play. The research findings indicate that there are significant differences in parental views on play depending on the age of the parents, their academic level and background, as well as the gender and age of their children.
